What Do You Need to Apply for an IPO?
Before applying for an IPO online, you generally need the following:
- A valid PAN card
- An active Demat account
- A trading or investment account
- A bank account
- An eligible UPI ID
- A UPI-enabled mobile application
- Your UPI PIN
How to Apply for an IPO Through a Mobile App
1 Open Your Investment App
Open your registered stockbroker or investment app and log in to your account.
Look for an option such as IPO, Investments, IPO Opportunities or a similar section.
2 Select the IPO
Choose the IPO you want to apply for. Before applying, carefully check the available IPO information.
- IPO opening date
- IPO closing date
- Price band
- Lot size
- Issue size
- Minimum investment
- Expected listing date
3 Enter the Number of Lots
Select the number of lots you want to apply for.
For example, if an IPO has a lot size of 20 shares and you apply for one lot, your application will be for 20 shares.
The lot size and investment amount are different for every IPO.
4 Enter Your UPI ID
Enter your eligible UPI ID while completing the IPO application.
Double-check your UPI ID before submitting the application to avoid errors.
5 Submit the IPO Application
Review the IPO details, quantity, UPI ID and other information. Once everything is correct, submit the application.
After submitting the application, you may receive a UPI mandate request in your UPI application.
6 Approve the UPI Mandate
Open your UPI application and look for the IPO mandate request.
Carefully check the company name and amount. If the details are correct, approve the mandate using your UPI PIN.
What Happens After Applying for an IPO?
After the IPO closes, the shares go through the allotment process. Depending on the demand and applicable allocation process, you may receive all, some, or none of the shares you applied for.
You receive the allotted shares.
You receive fewer shares than requested.
You don't receive shares.
Unused blocked funds are released.
How to Check IPO Allotment Status?
Once the allotment process is completed, investors can generally check their IPO allotment status through the IPO registrar's official website.
Depending on the registrar, you may need information such as:
- PAN number
- Application number
- Demat account details
Some investment apps may also display IPO application or allotment information.
